Brian Van Tighem – Photographer

Bio

I was born on the edge of the Rockies. I was shaped in the prairies, mountains, and coastlines of Western Canada. I grow wherever my work takes me, and I am inspired and influenced by the individuals I meet and the places I end up in the process.

Photography was an interest before it was a hobby, a hobby before it was a pursuit, and a pursuit before it was a passion. Now it shapes and changes me and my perspectives. It is an art as it is a science, based as much on perception as it is in reality. The camera is the medium that bridges the gap.

I love what I do. I love the challenges and the rewards; they together with the unique and wonderful clients I'm fortunate enough to work with are what drive me to grow and develop as a photographer and as an artist.

I’ve just posted my portfolio of images from 2011 online, so be sure to take a look through and feel free to comment! The photographs are a selection of travel, nature, landscape, and adventure images from the past year. Not quite as distinct of a theme as 2010, but definitely an interesting collection nonetheless.

2012

2011 was a big year. 2012 will be even bigger.

For myself, this image was one of the most inspiring photographs I took last year. This little girl flying her kite amidst the hundreds of other kites of every size and shape reminded me of the little boy and the sailboat in Vancouver back in 2010. This image was taken during the International Kite Festival on Long Beach in Washington state.

Here’s to another beautiful year, we’re in for a good one.
